Hello, again. It's been quite a while since I typed. Med school life is picking up. Got faculty LOs to take care of. Now I'll try to recall the events I think shaped the past week. This will be the last week I'll be by myself, alone in this apartment before my new house mate moves in. Quite cool, him, paying his part of the rent eventhough he hasn't moved in yet, and in advance.
I'll give highlights of what happened this past few days:
Welcome Back Keg aftermath:
Some people still come to me asking who was the girl I went to the keg with. Eyebrows were raised when I insisted that we were not together. Perhaps they meant 'not yet'.
On Thursday, drove round to PA again and back. Also did my first refill of the tank. That wasn't as bad as I thought. The car didn't die on me at all. On Friday, the car owner's (the car still isn't in my name yet) came over to check on the fuel tank. I thought I smelt the smell of fuel and that the petrol tank cap wasn't on tight enough. He inspected it, and said that that was the way it goes. He then left and came back later holding on to the car's new rego! Sweet! I didn't mention it earlier, but when I went to update the CTP insurance and the rego, after I paid they said that the sticker would be sent to the old address. My friend had checked the mailbox, and sure enough, there it was! Now I am practically ready for regular drives.
Yay! Got some praise from my tutor, also the Acting Head of the School Of Medicine here for my presentation. Got a reprimand for tying doctor shopping with patient's right to choose their doctor freely, but other than that got points for noting that doctors shouldn't disparage eacg other or put another doctor down behind their back. When he was emphasisng my main points, I didn't smile, just made eye contact and nodded, because I knew he was serious eventhough he was putting it in a light hearted fashion.
Monday, Hot offerred to get me pink post it notes for Valentine's day. I had said I often folded the pages and used post it notes for my textbooks. I wonder if she still remembers...
On Tuesday, Hot accepted to bring me to PA on Wednesday for the extra tutorial. Unfortunately, on the day itself, the tutorial got cancelled because of a logistical hitch (the textbooks didn't get distributed). She brought me home instead. Accompanying her was this short, spindly curly haired dude. They seemed like good friends. She couldn't make it on Friday cos she had to attend a funeral. On the way home, ratted to her about the Bruneians' performance. She asked. I sounded upset about it too, about the fact that they got so much allowance, then splurge it on clothes and phones, then complain to visiting Brunei education officials that their allowance is not enough. Made the point that I'm not part of that. I'm from a different country, but grew up in Brunei, I am not a scholarship student, therefore I'm not part of this group. This is a point that I must keep emphasising. Over and over. Now to assess the impact of my statements.
On Friday, I basically reiterated what I said to a med friend I met on the bus. I'm sure he was on an intelligencee gathering exercise due to his constant probing questions about how and why the Bruneians fail. Out of the 8, 5 were from Brunei, 2 dropped out. Total number of Brunei scholars in this year: 12.
Mmmm, while typing this heard the front door unlock and in came my new roomate's partner. She's moving some stuff of his in and coming to study. She's a first year med student from Brunei, in the same uni as I am. Sigh. I will miss being by myself. She's friendly, overly nice and quite likes taking care/charge of stuff. I'll call her Motherly. Just told her what stuff I expect from him and her about how I would like to run things, mostly the mundane running of house chores, grocery shopping, etc. He is a private student as well, or so I hear. I will find out. If so, good!
I think that's it for now. C ya later.
